Our Story

Our grandmothers were girls together in old Lucknow, and for years they tried to introduce us. We each found a reason to be somewhere else, every single time.
Then came a winter book fair at Aminabad, one copy of Faiz left on the table and two hands reaching for it. We argued over who saw it first, shared it instead, and talked until the stalls closed.
There followed Delhi and Bengaluru, a great many train tickets, and two families who knew everything before we did.
Last spring, in a garden in Kaiserbagh, with the fountains running and the moon coming up over the cypresses, Zayan asked. Mehr said yes, and our grandmothers said they had known all along.
